Protestants often make this demand, but then they always resort to bringing
in
their _own_ 'tradition', unless the discussions gets caught on some other
snag
before it can even get that serious.

The reason for this is simple: anyone who claims to give a plausible
interpretation of Scripture _without_ reference to some tradition is simply
wrong.
